| We must never forget the lesson of September 11! Never again can we take for granted the peace & freedom we enjoy as Americans. May God grant us the strength and perseverance to remain resolute and alert to the small handful of evil persons in our world who are driven by hate and violence. And God grant us the intelligence to know the difference from the bad and the good in humanity. | *After a trial in which several victims testified against them, seventeen members of the Abu Sayyaf have been sentenced to death by a Philippine court for kidnap and murder. It was the first mass conviction of members of the Abu Sayyaf who have been kidnapping and killing Christians and foreigners in the southern Philippines for a decade. All capital punishment cases must be reviewed by the Supreme Court of the Philippines before the death penalty is carried out. Even with the capture and killing of most of their leaders, and the drastic reduction in their membership and activities due to continued military operations against them, the Abu Sayyaf are still active in the southern islands. |
